Centroute Map Company was founded in 2017 with a simple goal: to bring a sense of art back into transit maps. From the start, consistency has been our compass. Every print uses the same restrained color palette—red in DC is red in London, blue in Paris is blue in New York. This uniformity allows our prints to connect across cities and styles, letting customers build collections that feel both cohesive and timeless.
Our inspiration comes from more than a century of railroad maps and transit diagrams. Using select design elements and stripping away clutter, we create wall art that’s as visually striking as it is functional — reducing the noise while celebrating the lines, shapes, and systems that have always guided travelers.
For decades, riding on mass transit has meant staring at those maps on trains and station walls. They raised endless questions: Why that color? Why that shape? Does that detail really need to be there? That curiosity pushed us to distill maps to their essence. What began as a fascination with wayfinding design evolved into a universe of bold, minimal prints — capturing the rhythm of movement, the poetry of transit, and the beauty of simplicity.
Our name, Centroute — a blend of center and route — reflects the idea that every journey begins with a personal center point: your route from A to B. Our cohesive prints bring those travels home, turning them into wall art worth sharing.

Behind the Prints
Centroute Map Company is a husband-and-wife team based in Washington, DC. Rob’s love for trains started early with a childhood trip to Tweetsie Railroad in Boone, NC, a visit that left a lasting impression and sparked a lifelong curiosity about transit. That fascination grew alongside his education and professional career in graphic design, eventually blending into a passion for creating transit-inspired art and prints.
Today, their home studio is where sketches become finished designs and new ideas are always in motion. Many of those ideas are sparked by customers themselves — requests and suggestions often inspire new designs and keep the collection growing. With the support of a trusted printing partner, they’re proud to send Centroute prints to homes and offices around the world.
